It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our friend, and long standing member Philip Helvin.
Philip was a valued member of Longridge Band since the mid seventies. He was a dedicated back row cornet player and played in every section until ill health saw him retire from playing around ten years ago.He was a great supporter of the band, be it providing a buffet, making footstools for raffles, and applying for grants and raising money. He ran the Junior Band and ‘B’ Band in the early nineties and still took an active part now and again with the current Youth Band. Philip was a valued Librarian, as well as being a hands-on helper when needed.
His humour, hard work and support for Longridge Band will be greatly missed after fifty years of dedicated service, with only a short time away when he played for the Lancashire Evening Post Band in the early eighties.
Philip will be sadly missed but never forgotten, not just by Longridge Band, but many other banders too.
