On Saturday 17th March we staged our annual ‘Patrons’ concert’ at the Longridge Civic Hall. Once again, the programme was made up of music entirely selected by our patrons. There was an eclectic selection of music chosen from classical repertoire such as Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture, to Baggy Trousers by Madness! There was even a unique solo opportunity for Sue Newby, who performed Leroy Anderson’s The Typewriter.
Presented at this concert is the Hilda Marle trophy. This is presented to the most promising young player. This year it was awarded to Joshua Peacock and presented by Hilda herself. Josh started with the band a few years ago on third cornet and is now making excellent contributions to the solo cornet team.
A presentation was also made to our conductor Mark Peacock by Brian Law. Brian thanked Mark for all his hard work with the band over the last year. Without a doubt the band has achieved some of its highest placings ever in recent competitions in the Championship section.
At this concert we also launched our 100 club. The 100 Club will operate as a Small Lottery as defined by the Gambling Act 2005. Half the money raised will help towards band funds, with the other half given as prizes in four draws throughout the year. Membership is £30 a year for one number.
